Expert Tip

Triangular spacing allows you to fit roughly 15% more plants in the same area compared to square spacing, while providing optimal sunlight exposure.

Calculation Methodology & Details

๐Ÿ“

Formula

Grid Spacing = Math.floor(Length / Spacing) × Math.floor(Width / Spacing) Triangular Spacing = Math.floor(Length / Spacing) × Math.floor(Width / (Spacing × 0.866))

For triangular patterns, vertical row spacing is reduced to Spacing * 0.866. Alternate rows are offset by half the spacing distance.

How to Spacing Seedlings

Follow these guidelines to space garden plants:

1

Determine Bed Area

Measure the length and width of the garden bed area.

2

Verify Plant Needs

Check the seedling tag spacing (e.g. 12 inches for lettuce).

3

Apply layout Pattern

Select square grid layout or triangular offset pattern.
