Input Parameters

Enter details for calculation.

Trunk Diameter (DBH)

12.00 inches

Tree Basal Area

0.785 sq ft

Expert Tip

DBH measurements should always be taken 4.5 feet (1.37 meters) above ground level on the uphill side of the tree.

Calculation Methodology & Details

๐Ÿ“

Formula

From Circumference: DBH = Circumference / ฯ€ From Ground: DBH = GroundDiameter - (Taper ร— BreastHeight) where BreastHeight = 4.5 ft (imperial) or 1.3 meters (metric)

For ground measurement mode, standard breast height is defined as 4.5 feet in imperial units and 1.3 meters in metric units.

How DBH is Calculated

Diameter calculations depend on field measurements:

1

Select Method

Use direct tape Circumference or Ground-Level Diameter with a taper factor.

2

Enter Values

Input measurements in either metric (cm) or imperial (inches).

3

Solve DBH & Area

The tool extracts the linear DBH and computes basal area automatically.
